Academy Room | Pitalian Pavilion | Expo 2020 Dubai
An experience that captures the essence of a land rich in history and tradition, created by the Sicilian Regional Department of Tourism, Sport, and Entertainment under the direction of Architect Laura Galvano, and brought to life in the studio of Sicilian artist Dario Denso Andriolo with music by Cristian Viviano, within the Sala Accademia of the Italy Pavilion.
Through interferences, sounds, and overlapping visual stimuli, *Sicily* invites visitors to immerse themselves in the splendid Sicilian mosaics such as those from Piazza Armerina, the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace in Palermo, the Cathedral of Monreale, and Cefalù; visually engage with archaeological artifacts from the Neapolis Park in Syracuse or the Morgantina Archaeological Area; and appreciate the grandeur of Sicilian Baroque architecture or the Cathedral of Palermo.
Typical elements of everyday Sicilian life are translated into a highly magnetic perceptual experience.
The visitor completes the installation within a mystical space, lightly set on a floor covered with mirrors and immersed in the citrus scent typical of the island’s pristine environments. The imposing projections and the visitor themselves are duplicated, creating the illusion of transcending from outside to beyond the screen.
The visitor experiences the complex simplicity of Sicilian beauty between light and darkness in a mystical fusion. Different wavelengths that translate into color create a symphony of pervasive images.
